Crock-pot Dinner: Chicken Veggies and Rice

Mom makes us many types of crock-pot dinners. They are so yummy! Here is one of our favorites.

Chicken Veggies and Rice

Chicken Veggies and Rice Yum
Yummy! Nom Nom Nom!!

1 cup of dried beans - pinto, northern, kidney, lima
1 cup rice
1 small zucchini
2 carrots
3 stalks of celery
2 cups of fresh kale or spinach
1 clove garlic (one clove in all this food won't hurt us, but you can leave it out)
1/2 tsp turmeric
2 tbls olive oil
1 750mg Tums (we need this for calcium)
3 boneless chicken breasts (about 2lbs)
5 cups of water

Ingredients

In the crock-pot place the rice and beans in the bottom. Dice up the zucchini, slice the carrots and celery. Place on top of the beans and rice. Tear up the kale and place on top of vegetables. Slice up the clove of garlic and place on top of the kale. Add the turmeric, olive oil and tums. Place the chicken breasts whole on top of everything. Pour in 5 cups of water. Turn crock-pot on low for 8 hours. When done use two forks to shred the chicken breasts and then mix everything. Let cool and serve. This will make several servings.

Chicken
The best part about crock-pot cooking is you make several servings at once. Mom buys plastic containers to store in refrigerator or freeze the food. She buys 1/2 cup freezer bowls for the dachshunds and 3 cup containers for me the bloodhound. This recipe makes 15 1/2 cup servings. That is enough food for a week for a dachshund!

Watch for more crock-pot recipes!

Feed twice a day.

How much to feed your dog:
Up to 10 lbs 1/8 to 1/4 cup
11 - 50 lbs 1/2 to 1 cup
51 - 100 lbs 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups
100 lbs or more 1 1/2 to 3 cups
This can be adjusted according to how active and thin your dog is. Very active dogs require more calorie intake and heavy dogs require less.

"Rescue Me Week"

This is a very special week! It is "Rescue Me Week" in memory of Mayzie's Grandpa J. Please click on the link and see how you to can help Mayzie honor Grandpa J.

PLEASE OPT TO ADOPT!!!

I would like to present Sandy a dachshund that is in need of her furever home. Please read about Sandy and see if she could be your doxie family member.

Sandy is a beautiful long hair red dachshund. She was a breeder dog in SC. Sandy really loves it when you call and pet her but she does not seek out attention. Sandy has a mild heart murmur but does not require medication at this time. She really just wants a human she can follow around and lay near. If you want to adopt Sandy visit his Web page at Furever Dachshund Rescue.

In Memory of Grandpa J - Mayzie's Rescue Me Week

This is a very special week! It is "Rescue Me Week" in memory of Mayzie's Grandpa J. Please click on the link and see how you to can help Mayzie honor Grandpa J.

As you know this bloodhound has a deep love for dachshunds. Yep! I have two brothers Bucky & Opie and a sister Sauci that are all dachshunds and boy do they run the house.

So dachshunds are special and we would like to present Myles a dachshund that is in need of his furever home. Please read about Myles and see if he could be your doxie family member.

Isn't he just adorable! He is only 1 1/2 yrs old and is happiest when he has toys to play with all day long! Myles loves to wrestle and run with his other fur friends so a playmate and a fenced in yard is a must. If you want to adopt Myles visit his Web page at Furever Dachshund Rescue.

Toilet Paper Showdown - Annie vs. Mom

I really like stealing the toilet paper out of the bathroom. But mom is pretty mad at me. She said toilet paper is not cheap and she cannot afford my paper and cardboard habits. I would blame this on the doxies Sauci, Bucky and Opie but they are too short to reach the toilet paper holder. She got the toilet paper away from me last night, but not before I got the cardboard center out of it and chewed up the edges. She put it back on the holder!

Now mom bought a bell and put on the end of the toilet paper holder. I think she thinks that it will stop me. I keep going in there and looking at this set up and I think I can figure out a way around this.

Check back for updates....... Toilet Paper Showdown Annie vs. Mom
